Ajax-Pickering Chiropractic Care

An Optimal Spine Equals Optimal Health

At Pickering Village Chiropractic & Massage our goal is to educate and adjust as many families as possible toward optimal health through natural chiropractic care.

Chiropractic care focuses on restoring and maintaining the health of your joints, muscles and nerves through the use of an adjustment.

A spinal adjustment can restore normal movement, relieve pain and stimulate higher function of your brain and nervous system resulting in a renewed sense of vitality.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chiropractic Care

Pickering chiropractor Dr. John Noble answers your chiropractic questions.

Will my first chiropractic visit involve a spinal adjustment?

Dr. Noble will determine whether or not you’ll have an adjustment on your first visit. It will depend on a variety of factors, such as whether you’ve been treated by a chiropractor before and what was found during your initial examination.

What is the noise I hear when I’m having an adjustment?

When chiropractors adjust or physically move a bone, a pressure difference is created within the synovial joint. It is the release of gases that cause a sound.

Will I need to have X-rays before my first chiropractic adjustment?

Dr. Noble uses X-rays to help them confirm their diagnosis and rule out the possibility of fractures. They will discuss whether they need to take X-rays of your spine during your first visit.

Will Dr. Noble perform any massage therapy during my visit?

No. He may do some soft tissue work on tight muscles from time to time, but his main focus is on spinal adjustments. Dr. Noble often encourages patients to seek the care of a registered massage therapist, however, if he believes it will aid in the recovery process of his patient.

Do spinal adjustments hurt?

You may experience some discomfort because of an injury to the muscle, however, adjustments don’t usually cause any pain. Inflamed or strained muscles may feel sore after or during a treatment. The overall effect, however, is to help relieve your pain and make you feel more relaxed.

Do I need a referral from a medical doctor to see a chiropractor?

No. Every Ontario resident is entitled to chiropractic care without a referral. And because chiropractic care is a drugless practice, we do not prescribe either. We do, however, carry vitamins and mineral supplements.

How long will I need chiropractic care?

After your chiropractor completes your initial assessment and examination, he will recommend a treatment plan. The length of time you are under chiropractic care is based on your needs and rate of healing.

How long will my chiropractic appointments take?

Your first examination and assessment will last approximately 45 minutes. This allows time for the chiropractor and his assistant to take your medical history, discuss your current health and perform a chiropractic examination. Each visit after that lasts approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Are my chiropractic visits covered by OHIP?

Although many extended health care plans cover a portion of the cost of chiropractic care, chiropractic visits are no longer covered by OHIP.
