If you are looking for RMT massage Ajax residents can claim through their workplace benefits, the details matter as much as the massage itself. Who treats you, what the session costs, what goes on the receipt and how to book all affect whether your visit is easy to pay for and worth your time.
At Pickering Village Chiropractic & Massage, our registered massage therapists have treated patients in Ajax and Pickering for decades. This guide covers session prices, how insurance reimbursement works, what happens at your appointment and how to book with our RMTs in Ajax.
What Does RMT Stand For, and Why Does It Matter?
RMT stands for Registered Massage Therapist. In Ontario, massage therapy is a regulated health profession, and RMTs must be registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.
That registration matters for two reasons:
Training and standards: Registered therapists complete formal massage therapy education and follow the College's standards of practice.
Insurance claims: Extended health plans usually reimburse massage only when it is provided by a registered therapist. Our RMTs include their registration number on every receipt.
How Much Does RMT Massage Cost in Ajax?

Session length | Price |
|---|---|

45 minutes | $80 |
60 minutes | $100 |

Which Session Length Should You Book?
30 minutes: One focused area, such as the neck and shoulders
45 to 60 minutes: Two or three areas, or a first visit where your therapist also needs time to assess
90 to 120 minutes: Full-body treatment or several problem areas in one visit
If you are not sure, a 60-minute session gives your therapist time to ask questions and treat the main areas of concern. Check your benefits first, because some plans set a maximum amount per visit or per year.
Is RMT Massage Covered by Insurance?
Massage therapy is not covered by OHIP. However, many extended health plans reimburse part or all of the cost of RMT massage.
Before you book, check these points with your insurer or your plan booklet:
How much your plan covers per visit and per year
Whether you need a doctor's referral to be reimbursed
Whether there is a limit on the number of visits
How to submit your receipt for reimbursement
A doctor's referral is not needed to see an RMT. You only need one if your insurance plan requires it for reimbursement, and many insurers do. If your plan asks for one, get it before your first visit so your receipts can be claimed.

What Happens at Your First RMT Appointment?
Your therapist will start by asking about your health history, the reason for your visit and any areas you want to focus on or avoid. From there, they will explain the treatment plan before starting.
A few things people often ask before their first visit:
Do I have to undress? No. You only undress to the level you are comfortable with, and you stay covered during treatment. You can keep any area clothed.
Can I ask for more or less pressure? Yes. Tell your therapist at any point during the session.
Can I get a massage while pregnant? Yes. Our RMTs provide pregnancy massage.
What goes on my receipt? Your receipt includes your therapist's name and registration number so you can submit it to your insurer.
