Searching for a chiropractor Pickering residents can trust usually brings up a long list of clinics with similar promises. The better way to decide is to look at a few practical things: who will treat you, how the first assessment works, what it costs and whether the hours fit your week.
Pickering Village Chiropractic & Massage is located on Old Kingston Rd. in Ajax, a short drive from Pickering, and has cared for patients from both communities since 1986. This guide explains what to look for in a chiropractor, what happens at your first visit and how our chiropractic care works.
Do You Need a Referral to See a Chiropractor in Ontario?
No. Every Ontario resident can see a chiropractor without a referral from a doctor. You can call or book online directly.
Chiropractic care is not covered by OHIP. Many extended health plans cover part of the cost, so check your plan for the amount covered per visit and per year before you start care.
How to Choose the Best Chiropractor in Pickering
When you compare clinics, look beyond reviews and location. These questions help you find the right fit.
Is the Chiropractor Registered and Experienced?
Chiropractors in Ontario must be registered with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario. You can check any chiropractor on the College's public register. Also ask how long they have been in practice and where they trained.
Does Care Start With a Full Assessment?
A good chiropractor should understand your health history and examine you before recommending treatment. Be cautious of any clinic that starts adjusting before asking questions or explaining what they found.
Are X-Rays Used Only When Needed?
X-rays can help confirm a diagnosis and rule out problems such as fractures. Your chiropractor should explain whether you need them and why.
Are the Fees Clear?
You should know the cost of your first visit, any X-rays and follow-up visits before you book. Clinics that post their fees make it easier to plan and to check what your insurance will cover.
Do the Hours Fit Your Schedule?
Consistent care is easier when appointments fit around work and school. Look for early morning or late afternoon times if you commute.
Does the Clinic Offer Other Services?
Clinics that also offer massage therapy or custom orthotics let you combine care in one place.
What Happens at Your First Chiropractic Visit?
Plan to spend about 45 minutes at your first visit with Dr. Noble. Here is what to expect.
Health history: Dr. Noble will ask about your personal and family medical history, past illnesses, surgeries, medications, diet, exercise, work, leisure activities and sleep habits.
Examination: This includes a complete neuromuscular and orthopaedic exam, reflex checks, tests of muscle strength, flexibility and coordination, and a posture analysis.
X-rays, if needed: Dr. Noble uses X-rays to help confirm a diagnosis and rule out fractures. If you have spinal X-rays from before, bring them with you.
Your care plan: Based on the findings, Dr. Noble may recommend relief, corrective or wellness care, or refer you to another health care provider if that is the better option.
Follow-up visits are shorter, usually 10 to 15 minutes. You can read more on our new patients page.
What Happens During a Chiropractic Adjustment?
An adjustment is a quick, controlled movement that helps restore normal motion in a joint. You may hear a popping sound. That sound comes from a pressure change inside the joint and is normal. Your chiropractor may also work on tight muscles as part of your treatment.
Can a Chiropractor Help With Neck Pain?
Neck pain is one of the common reasons people visit a chiropractor. At your first visit, Dr. Noble will assess your neck, posture and daily habits to find what may be contributing to the pain and explain your options. If your neck and shoulder muscles are tight, you can also ask about combining chiropractic care with massage therapy.
